Colour in North Korea

This photo from National Geographic’s North Korea in Widescreen article struck me for some reason. I know Pyeongyang is a show town, but the pink and brown buildings in this downtown section seem well built and have more rhyme ‘n’ reason than seen in higgledy-piggeldy Seoul. Perhaps it’s a case of post-70s design vs 50s design, as Cuba also has a similarly petite and coloured aesthetic. I’ve seen similar buildings in Singapore though, which is/was neither communist nor time stuck. Take a look also at the turquoise buildings to the left side of this pic:
